Halloween

Matthew and Anna have really been looking forward to Halloween. They had a hard time deciding what they wanted to be this year, but finally settled on super heroes. It was easy to sew up some capes and masks and throw together some accessories. Meet Lightning Boy and Spy Girl!

We decorated our house a little bit and I think we are all ready for tomorrow! Happy Halloween!!

Cooling Down

We've been able to do some fun things the last little while. Matthew had his first school field trip to a pumpkin patch and Anna and I got to join him. They had tons of fun riding the ponies, going on a train ride, and painting pumpkins.

We went to the fair in September and had a fun time petting some animals and going on rides.

We've been fishing a couple of times at a little pond a few miles away. The kids caught six fish the first time we went! They had so much fun and I think it is one of my favorite things to do as a family.

We are glad the weather is cooling down a little bit so we can enjoy doing these fun things outside. Happy Fall!

Wedding

My sister Robin got married last week! The kids and I flew to Utah a few days before to help with last minute preparations. My mom made her beautiful dress and they put a lot of work into all the decorations for the reception.

The weather was beautiful and everything went smoothly. I loved her flowers and all the ribbons and gold glitter everywhere. It was so fun to help and get to see family and friends at the reception that I haven't seen for a long time.

We are so happy for Robin and Darren and so glad that we got to be with them on their special day!

Home

I've been trying to get our home organized and decorated as quickly as possible, since I'm sure we'll be packing up again before we know it. I still have a long way to go, but we are definitely happy here and it will be a great home for us. We've made some friends, been given callings at church, and have figured out the best grocery stores to go to.
We traded in our New York license plates for Texas ones and it made me a little sad. It was one of the few visual things that always reminded me of New York. When people here ask us where we are from, I'm not always sure what to tell them. I'm from Utah, I guess, but I kind of feel like our little family is from New York.

In a couple of days we'll be going home to Utah for a week. I know that it will always be our home because all of our family is there, and we love going back to see them. It always rejuvenates us to head back out on our own after we've been with our family.

We probably have a lot of moving in our future
, but I'm so glad that we can make a home wherever we are together.

Some projects: spray painted frames, tray, and owl figurine from the thrift store - free printables found on pinterest - fabric covered button magnets - painted wooden utensils - hand painted dish towels.

Some Sewing

I haven't been able to sew very much since we started preparing to move in May. My supplies are still in boxes and bags, and I can't wait to get everything organized and get started on some fall sewing! But I did get to make a few things for myself over the summer while the kids were entertained with grandparents and cousins.

red button front skirt --- polka dot tee --- aqua midi skirt --- bright flowy top

I made my own patterns for all of them, and I'm really happy with how they turned out. I feel like I'm finally getting good enough to have something end up exactly how I had it imagined in my head... at least most of the time.

I wish I could have made a bunch of new school clothes for Matthew, but there was no time. I did pull out the freezer paper and fabric paint and the kids got a few fun t-shirts. Anna is in love with her batman shirt. My favorite is the USA map that shows all the places we have lived. If it holds up well, I can add to it when we move next year.

Next on the list are bridesmaid skirts and bow-ties for my sister's wedding in a few weeks!

First First Day of School

Matthew had his first day of Kindergarten today! He looked so big (yet at the same time, so small) carrying his huge backpack and walking into his school. It was a successful day, despite the fact that I have been dreading it for months. I'm not sure what I was so worried about, but I do know that Matthew can be very stubborn and likes things to be his idea. I'm also kind of used to having him around, so I knew I'd miss him a lot. Things were quiet at home with just Anna and me, but we enjoyed ourselves and I only checked the clock a hundred times to see if it was 3:00 yet! But Matthew had a great day and is looking forward to going back tomorrow.

I hope Matthew will have a great year and that he'll learn a lot, educationally and socially. It is fun to watch him grow up and to be able to experience all these new things with him!
